In the spring of 2022, we began a consultative strategic planning process understanding that the world and our role in it had changed. Emerging out of the pandemic we witnessed shifts in healthcare management, the increasing role technology plays in business and society, and the greater importance placed on societal values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The process allowed us to assess the DeGroote School of Business’ place in the current business school landscape and identify opportunities for the School to grow, particularly in the strategic areas most important to us and McMaster: Teaching & LearningResearch and ScholarshipEngaging CommunitiesInclusive Excellence and Operational Excellence.

The DeGroote School of Business community has chosen five strategic goals by which to navigate the next five years. They determine our priorities and guide our major initiatives and activities so that we may fulfill our mission and bring our vision to life. It is driven by a strong desire to make a meaningful impact that reflects our values: collaboration, community, inclusivity, innovation, and integrity.

We will be guided by measurable actions against our goals and initiatives, with an emphasis on digital transformation, entrepreneurship, health innovation, and sustainability. We will inspire change by incorporating ethical principles and diversity in learning. We will create impact by leveraging partnerships to contribute to sustainable communities. We will transform business and society by creating an ecosystem that supports entrepreneurial, socially responsible, and ethical mindsets. These are only some of the bold initiatives collectively identified through the planning process.

I wish to thank everyone who participated in the strategic planning process. Our approach was deliberately collaborative, inviting input from all our stakeholders. Over the past year, we gathered insights from more than 1,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, and employers to make this a truly consultative process.

I am looking forward to working together to put this ambitious plan into action to make a significant impact on business and society, locally, nationally, and globally.
